Thunder United U14 girls, coached by Sam Haddad and Mauricio Vera. were champions in BBSL Division "B" fall 2008 season.  The girls received trophies as they participated in the parade of champions at the 1st Mariner Marina on Dec 14th.

Thunder U-10 United boys played in the Hunt Country Classic in Warrenton last weekend and won the championship in the Premier division with wins of 4-1, 4-2, 5-1 and 6-1 in the championship game.  The local clubs told us that most of the better local teams were represented and we beat the host team who the manager said wins the majority of their games  5-1.  United displayed great defense and goal keeping (only 5 goals in 4 games and 3 of the goals came on turnovers from switching fields in the back line, which we are emphasizing),  possession passing (we had several goals that came from 4 or 5 one touch passes strung together), crossing and finishing (we had goals scored by 7  of the 10 players on the team with 4 players who had 2 or more goals).

The updated tally is that United ended up 6-1-1 in NCSL and outscored the opposition 38-7. In our four tournaments we are 12-2-1, outscoring our opponents 49-21. 

That is an overall  record of 18-3-2,  YTD for the United with 107 goals for and 28 against. Our cumulative record starting  the Spring of our U-8 season, the United is 58-12-4 (including tournaments and 2007 indoor).

On Monday October 29th Zapata’s Mexican restaurant in Harper Choice sponsored a fundraiser where they donated part of the proceeds to the club.  The club made $250.00 dollars and coach Cesar Flores from Zapata’s has donated another $100.00 for a total of 350.00 for our scholarship fund.  Fantastic-I hope that everyone had a great time.

Thunder Magic U-14 girls’ team, coached by Sam Haddad and Steve Anderson, were finalists in the SAC Columbus day tournament 2008. The Thunder Magic played a very competitive match against the Freestate Lightening and lost 0-1. Congratulation Thunder Magic on a great weekend.

The U12 Girls Thunder Extreme won the Virginia Beach Columbus Day Tournament held on October 11-12th. TSC Extreme swept their preliminary games without allowing a goal, beating Beach FC Piranhas Elite Black 3-0, Richmond Strikers United 2-0, and NYSL Hurricanes 11-0. TSC Extreme met the Richmond Strikers United again in a tough final that was won with penalty kicks after a 2-2 tie in regulation.

The Thunder Strikers U-13 girls team,coached by Kevin Axenfeld and Jim Pontius, were finalists in the Thunder Soccer Fest tournament held Labor Day weekend 2008 at the Soccerplex. The Strikers won their first match 6-0 against the MSI Azzuri. In the second game, they defeated Ashburn Soccer Club Premier in penalty kicks 3-1. In the semifinals the Strikers beat their sister Thunder Storm team. In the championship match. a strong Parkville Soccer Club team beat the Strikers 2-1 in a very competitive game.

The U12 Thunder Storm Tempesta won the 2008  Thunder Soccer Fest U12 Girls Classic division held  August 30-31, 2008.   The ladies defeated the Laurel Wildcats 3-1 and Freedom Hurricanes 4-1.  They fell to the VYS Bulldogs in a tough 0-2 lost, but faced them in the championship and turn the tables in a 2-0 hard fought victory and claimed the championship.  Team members:

The Thunder Strikers U-13 girls team ,coached by Kevin Axenfeld and Jim Pontius, won the August Cup soccer tournament held at the Soccerplex from 8/23-8/24/2008. The Strikers defeated ASA Baxter Blue Flames in their first game 2-0.They won their second match against Old Dominion FC 4-0. In the third match, the Strikers beat Bethesda Galaxy by a score of 2-1. In the championship game they defeated the DC Stoddert Blue Mischief 2-1.

This past Labor Day Weekend the U11 Girls Thunder Red Storm team, coached by Professional Soccer Player Miguel Garcia and Luz Aye,  participated in the OBGC Capital Cup Tournament where they faced some of the best teams in the Maryland and Virginia Area.  They tied 0-0 against SAC Premier on Saturday morning.  On Saturday afternoon they had to play  against the FPYC Canonnieri team where the score of 1-1 was not enough for the teams to advance to the semifinals so a 3-2 penalty kick shotout gave the Red Storm the opportunity to advance and play the MSC Coyotes Green in the semifinals.  The Red Storm defeated the Coyotes Green  2 goals to 1 in the semifinals.  With this victory the Red Storm team once again played the SAC Premier team taking the championship title after another  penalty kick shoutout (3-2).   

The girls displayed outstanding skills all weekend long.  Their hard work and love of the sport are making this team a very unique and powerful team.

The U12 Thunder Storm Tempesta were finalist in the 2008 FreedomFirst Soccer tournament U12 Girls Classic division, held August 16-17, 2008. The ladies defeated the GBSC Crush 2-1 and Thunder Storm Tormenta 3-0 and tied FSC Hurricanes 1-1.  They faced  GBSC Crush in  the championship losing 1-0.

Thunder United U11 Boys win their Division at the Gettysburg Blue and Gray Cup May 24-25, 2008. The team was seeded 2^nd in their division and went undefeated in the full-length games to come in first place. Their overall record was 4 wins and 2 losses over the 6 games (3 mini games and 3 full-length). Coaches are Peter Glaudemans and Thorsten Kappey. Team members, Grey Croyle, Matthew Nevin, Jonathon Binkley, Ian Kappey, Benjamin Glaudemans, William Sheets, Francisco Joseph, Hector Serra, Zachary Rodriguez, Andrew Rodriguez, and Kyle Kroll.

CONGRATULATIONS TO TSC SIAFU U9 GIRLS COACHED BY GREG HALL AND JOSE ARGUETA. THEY TOOK FIRST PLACE IN THE GETTYSBURG TOURNAMENT THIS PAST MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.  Winning the tournament was truly a team effort.  The passing and ball distribution was amazing.  Our defense was awesome. We received compliments from other coaches, teams and the refs.  Each of the girls bring a specialty to the team that makes us unique. Yuliza's amazing speed and agility, Brianna is so diverse, Victoria had a nice hat trick, Gwynn is the energizer bunny- she keeps going and going and going, Emily did not give up any goals as our main keeper in fact we were not scored on all weekend, Fran Great passing, .Kate also had a hat trick,  Sofia's throw-ins are amazing, Kinlee seems to always be the first to the ball, Thanks to Marissa for helping out this weekend.

The Red Storm team defeated the SAC Premier team in the championship match that went to penalty kicks.  Players Fern Peters, Sydney Peirce, Karen Aye and Catelyn Gamble scored in the penalty shoot out.  Keeper Catelyn Gamble stopped three of the penalty kicks taken by the SAC Premier team leading us to victory.  

The Red Storm team played outstanding soccer all weekend long. Three games led up to the Championship match in which they also went undefeated.  The girls played the SAC Premier team on Friday and won 2-1.  Goals were scored by Karen Aye and Genna Brown.  On Saturday they played against the FPYC Cannonieri team from VA and beat them 2-1.  Goals were scored by Genna Brown and Zakiya Muhammad.  On Sunday they played the CSA Swan Gold team from Calverton and defeated them 2-1.  Goals were scored by Fern Peters and Madison Burfeind.
