Sarah moved to Maryland in 2001 to serve as an assistant coach on the GU women’s soccer staff under Head Coach Elijah Gold. While it can be a difficult balancing act, it is imperative that the student-athlete maintains 100 percent commitment to both.

Gumina holds a bachelor’s degree in Deaf Studies from Towson University and is also a certified sign language interpreter. She also holds a National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Gumina is a member of the TSC Maryland Pride, a women’s soccer semi-professional team, which plays in the Women’s Premier Soccer League.

Gumina started her collegiate career at University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando on scholarship under Coach Karen Richter. She played two seasons for the Knights before she transferred to University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa to play for Coach Logan Fleck. She played one year in the United Soccer League (USL) with the Tampa Bay Extreme after college.

In high school she lettered in soccer, softball and cross country at Apopka High School in Orlando. Gumina holds the school record for goals scored in a career at Apopka. She earned All-State and All-County honors in soccer. Gumina was selected to the Florida State Olympic Development Program (ODP).

Chris’s practice strategies and communication style allows him to teach the game in a way that kids really respond to and enjoy.  Practice sessions are always filled with exciting races, contests and games to keep the kids engaged and having fun while they learn.

At practice, coach Chris always places a great deal of emphasis on fundamental ball control and short passing skills.  His teams learn a possession style game with his players constantly increasing their comfort level with the ball as they develop.  Chris is excited about the future of Thunder Soccer Club and helping every one of his players reach their true potential.

Van Order, Norm - Coach

Teams:

00’ - 01’ Girls Blitz

Norm recently joined the Thunder Soccer Club after spending over 15 years coaching girls’ youth soccer in Severna Park where his teams played at the top level of WAGS and CMMSL.  Many of his players reach the ODP and regional level, and with hard work and commitment can meet their first goal of making a High School team.

Norm has developed a program that creates a lifelong connection and passion for soccer.  He believes development of the young player in the technical and tactical skills of the game drives their willingness to continually learn as they find confidence through success.  Such success results from appropriate training games combined with the challenge of matches. Over time, the player and team establish a set of skills with a love of the game necessary to play competitively at the state and national levels—known as the "premier" level of soccer.

Norm calls on his playing experience in HS and competitive adult leagues, coaching courses, and strong desire to continually learn better ways to train and coach for specifically developing girl soccer players.

Jeff is the Chief Financial Officer of an employee-owned medical communications company in Columbia. Jeff is also the father of 5 children ranging in age from 9 to 22. He began his coaching career when he got an 11th hour call from a recreation level soccer coordinator saying that his daughter’s soccer team would have to be dispersed among other teams due to the lack of a coach. Since that day, Jeff has answered the call by head and assistant coaching 15 basketball teams, 7 lacrosse teams and 9 soccer teams at both the recreation and travel levels. He has developed his soccer coaching philosophy by being on the coaching sidelines and in the stands as his children have collectively played over 65 seasons of travel and high school soccer.

Jeff’s coaching philosophy is based on the goal that he wants every player who plays for him, in any sport, to develop a love for the game and to enjoy playing the sport at a high level so that they will be playing through high school, college and beyond. In order to do that, the practices and games must be fun, above all else. Kids love to compete at almost anything, so practices should be series of fast paced small sided competitions, with an emphasis on maximizing touches, effort and decision making. In summary Jeff coaches because he believes that sports’ lessons of teamwork, dependability, leadership, hard but fair play, handling adversity and sportsmanship will carry his players to success in life, work and play throughout their lives.
