TSC MD Red Devils suffer first loss of season to Pocono Snow

 

The TSC Maryland Red Devils let 3 points slip away on Friday night with a 2-0 loss at home to Pocono Snow at the new turf field at Howard Community College.
 
The Red Devils started off with a fast pace and found themselves in Pocono’s end of the field for a good spell of early pressure. Ipolite Aly and Angel Draganov were very dangerous and had great chances to put the Red Devils ahead, but the chances slipped away.
 
Pocono Snow was able to withstand the pressure and with their first counter-attack found the MD Red Devils defensive line unprepared and took the lead. A great cross by Roy Thompson found Pocono’s midfielder, Jason Rudder inside the box and he converted smartly to put them ahead 1-0.  The goal lifted Pocono’s confidence and for long periods of the first half they controlled the game.  In the 36th minute, the Snow had a great chance to double their lead with a penalty kick, but an outstanding save by Dan Louisignau kept the score close.
 
The last 10 minutes of the first half were all MD Red Devils who had two great chances to get a goal back. First, Freddy Llerena received the ball in the penalty area, made a nifty turn and shot, but unfortunately the shot went wide, and then shortly after, Ipolite Aly stole the ball from Pocono’s last man and stormed off on a breakaway, but he couldn’t convert into a goal either.
 
 
Determined to put one away, the Red Devils continued the smothering pressure in the first minutes of the second half.  Another good chance broke Llerena’s way, but the shot went wide.
 
 
Then, in the 54th minute, a thru ball found Michael Kane behind the Red Devils, and he made it 2-0 to Pocono. After this goal the more experienced Pocono side control the game and didn’t give any chances to the Red Devils to come back in the game.  Final score MD Red Devils 0 - Pocono Snow 2.
 
MD Red Devils will look to regroup after this home loss and will travel to Pocono on Friday, June 4th for a quick rematch.

TSC MD Red Devils Win Season Opener 1-0

 

On a beautiful evening, over 300 fans watched the Maryland Red Devils historical first game vs. FC Reading Revolution at Cedar Lane Park in Columbia. The stalemate was due in part to good goalkeeping, solid defense and the newness of the season.
 
The game began with the two teams going at each other trying to immediately find a weakness in each other’s armor. The FC Reading Revolution offered a more direct style of play with long balls which tested the MD Red Devils’ defense. The MD Red Devils on the other hand did most of their attacking down the flanks, but the outside backs of FC Reading were very solid, allowing only balls to be easily collected by keeper Richard Hessler.  FC Reading applied more pressure on MD Red Devils during the first half and two times they were close to opening the score, but two great saves by DAN LOUISIGNAU kept the game scoreless thru the first half. Both teams were clearly eager to score the first goal of the new season, and were looking for counter-attacking opportunities for most of the first half.
 
In the second half, the energy picked up. FC Reading continued to keep up the pressure, but the MD Red Devils center backs COREY ADAMS and SCOTT DEFRANCES were able to keep the FC Reading forwards away from the goal, and Big Dan Louisignau came up with another brilliant save to keep the game scoreless early on. 
 
As the game heated up, a couple of small tussles began in the center part of the field as both teams wanted to take home the three points and fought relentlessly to do so.
 
With three substitutions in the 58th minute, and an adjustment in the MD Red Devils strategy, the team started to dominate and pressure the opponents.  This paid off in the 82nd minute when the high pressure from MD Red Devils forward BRIAN DAVIS caused a FC Reading defender to lose control of the ball.  CHRIS WILLIAMS stole the ball and with a rocket of a shot from outside the right-hand side of the penalty area, he left the Revolution Keeper no chance - 1:0 to the Red Devils.
 
In the last minutes of the game, FC Reading tried to get the goal back but well organized defensive play secured the result.  Congratulations to all MD Red Devils players, coaches, managers, and Fans for the first historical WIN for the team.
 
Our next game is this Friday, May 21st at 6:30pm at Howard Community College vs. Pocono Snow.

4/12/10 - TSC MD Red Devils next round of tryouts are scheduled for April 15th from 8:00pm to 10:00pm at Western Regional Park.  There will be a one-time fee of $50 for anyone who wishes to attend. Please make the payment via check to TSC MD Red Devils (NO CASH), and hand in to one of the coaching staff on the first day you attend. If you plan on attending the try outs and have not already done so, please complete the form under the tryout registration link to the left.

Update:  Please arrive dressed in a white t-shirt and black shorts.

Local Soccer Organization, Thunder Soccer Club Joins the National Premier Soccer League

Howard County, MD - January 21, 2010: Thunder Soccer Club today announced it is launching its men’s outdoor soccer team in the National Premier Soccer league (NPSL).   The 2010 team will play in the NPSL Northeast Region’s Keystone Conference.  This highly competitive league, which competes at the “PDL” (Premier Development League) level, will include, but is not limited to National Team, former and current University and College, foreign, amateur, former professional and youth players.

The men’s team will be known as TSC Maryland Red Devils, and will play its home games in Howard County, Maryland.  The season starts mid-May and concludes with playoffs and a Championship match at the end of July.

The team’s head coach will be Thunder SC’s Stefan Draganov, former professional player and Division 1 Coach in Bulgaria. Stefan is also currently the Head Coach of Howard Community College men’s team.

 The Thunder Soccer Club (TSC) of Howard County has been serving Central Maryland since 1991. TSC provides year round soccer programs for approximately 750 registered players, 45 boys and girls youth travel teams ranging from U8 thru U19, and also has an in-house “Micro” program for 4 thru 9 year olds.
