Michael started playing soccer as a 4 year old youngster. His playing career has taken him to three continents and numerous countries. As a teenager he spent five years based in London, England, traveled to Holland, France, Belgium and Germany for expert coaching, and participated in high level tournaments and events. He was rewarded with many honors. Upon returning to the United States he became a standout at the high school and college levels.
In 2003, he was hired as an Assistant Coach at one of Maryland’s historically successful and well respected programs. As a key member of the Montgomery College-Rockville staff, they garnered two Maryland state and Regional titles. In 2005 he decided to take on a new challenge and was successful in reviving and creating new interest in a dormant program at their sister school in Takoma Park, Md. High school soccer had always been a keen interest to Michael, so in 2007, he volunteered at Magruder High School and played an important role in the Colonels winning a Maryland 4A state title. Chesapeake College had gone without a winning season for 16 years, and the two years prior to Michael’s arrival in 2009, the Skipjacks had won 1 game and lost 25. He came in and developed a program--introducing a new and innovative style--changed beliefs, and raised interest. His team made the playoffs, many of his players were honored, and they garnered the best record in the school’s history. Mike was selected by his peers as the 2009 MD JUCO Coach of the Year. He is tireless in his work, and passionate in his unique style of coaching.
