Thunder Magic is a team that has continually evolved both in technical skill level, tactical skill level, as well as, in fair play and sportsmanship. Each year as we lose and gain players on the team we continue to reinforce the value of both physical play and emotional strength on the field; as well as, the importance of being a team with integrity and respect not only for the others on the Thunder Magic team; but also for the teams we play.
The primary objective of the Magic team is to provide opportunities for HS age players with the interest in continuing their playing career at the collegiate level. This means the opportunity to train and to prepare for collegiate level play and to gain exposure to college coaches by playing in premier and showcase level tournaments. Selected tournaments focus on the events that coaches, (from the schools players have expressed an interest in) normally attend. Past events have taken these teams into Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida as well as events hosted in Maryland.
Thunder Magic Premier Girl’s teams offer 3-5 late summer/fall tournaments, starting in early to mid-August and conclude with tournaments in late November/early December. Neither league play, nor scheduled training is planned due to the conflict with High School soccer. Some periodic training sessions will be scheduled for team preparation for upcoming tournament play. The spring season will consist of 4-5 tournaments as well as an option to participate in the Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGSL) and Maryland State Cup/President’s Cup.
Training focuses on team play and tactics. Multiple formations for attacking and defending will be taught and when to utilize which formation.
